Exhibitions 2022
Throughout 2022, Gothenburg’s 400-year anniversary is focusing on the theme of Health. The objective is to stimulate a sense of engagement in health issues, in order to contribute to better health and well-being in the city and throughout the region.
As part of a collaboration that includes Sahlgrenska University Hospital, the University of Gothenburg and ABF, three exhibitions are being displayed at the Urban Gallery of Gothenburg. The exhibitions increase the visibility of, and contribute with different perspectives on, aspects relating to the theme of health: ageing, work and mental ill-health.
Becoming Visible
“Becoming Visible” was an art exhibition on the theme of mental ill-health and creativity.
The works was created by artists who have participated in the work of the art studios at Sahlgrenska University Hospital, which are connected to the departments for psychiatric care. The exhibition has been curated by Stefan Karlsson and Inez Edström Thoresson, who also lead the unique art initiative at the hospital. Other organisations that have contributed to the exhibition include Norma, which is a creative workshop for young women and transgender people with mental ill-health issues, and Stiftelsen Gyllenkroken, which is a cultural and activity centre primarily aimed at people with impaired mental ability.
In order to raise awareness of mental health throughout the city, artistic contributions have also been received from selected projects from within the youth assembly, the department for preschools, the department for the elderly, care and healthcare, and the social services departments for the central, south-eastern, north-eastern and Hisingen regions.
Those of us who work using our bodies
Those of us who work using our bodies is an exhibition with photos and stories from people in professions where it is necessary to be at their workplace. Initiator, writer and exhibition producer Annica Carlsson Bergdahl and photographer Elisabeth Ohlson have traveled in Sweden, from Kiruna to Malmö. They have interviewed, photographed and filmed 33 people who work with their bodies.
No Limits
A photography exhibition of elite international track and field athletes over the age of 60, who compete in championship events on the world stage, taken by British photographer Alex Rotas.
The exhibition is shown in Gothenburg with the support of AgeCap at the University of Gothenburg and the Carin Mannheimer’s Memorial Fund.

Gothenburg Tales
As part of the city’s 400th anniversary, the Museum of Gothenburg has conducted 100 interviews with 100 citizens of Gothenburg. The personal stories are now saved for the future in the museum’s archives.
On June 4, 2021, these people took their place at the square Gustaf Adolfs Torg in central Gothenburg. In the exhibition you could meet women and men, old and young, natives and newcomers, with all possible occupations and from different parts of the city. Their voices and portraits give a picture of Gothenburg today, but also tell about things that have been and what can be. Each statement opens up a possible story about Gothenburg, and together they form a story.

Min Resa
Min resa (‘My Journey’) was the common thread behind this exhibition; a story, a picture, a human being. All the people you met in The Urban Gallery of Gothenburg have been given free rein to interpret the idea of its journey in their own way. For all 100 stories, there was an invitation for you as a viewer to share your journey through the hashtag #minresagbg. In this way, we tried to create a dialogue about our travels on a global level, as the whole world lives and meets here in Gothenburg. The exhibition was shown at Volvo Ocean Race 2018, Frihamnen, June 14-18.
