Home / 150 electric buses in Gothenburg
17 December 2020

What paved the way for the fact that there are now so many electric buses in the Gothenburg area are, among other things, the successful tests that have been done in recent years with electric buses on the extra lines 55 and EL16.

The tests have taken place within the framework of the broad collaboration ElectriCity Gothenburg within the Traffic & Public Transport Authority’s anniversary project Smart Transport. The purpose of Smart Trafik is to promote new solutions for more sustainable travel and transport in Gothenburg, with reduced emissions, increased traffic safety, better traffic flows and reduced noise.

Only electric buses in 2030

The nearly 150 new electric buses now operate 34 fully electrified lines in Gothenburg, Mölndal and Partille. In Gothenburg, it is mainly about the southwestern parts of the city. Other blue electric buses are already available on line 60.

The goal is for all buses in city traffic to be electric buses by 2030. This will improve the urban environment and contribute to a more sustainable city.

Following the successful tests with electric buses, collaboration within ElectriCity is now continuing with a broader focus on both marine solutions with electric ferries and electrified construction sites.
