Gothenburg’s 400th anniversary upgrades to 2021-2023
The Gothenburg City Council decided on Thursday 10th of September on changes for the 400th anniversary of Gothenburg due to Covid-19. In short, this means that there will be a smaller-scale celebration of the official birthday on the 4th of June 2021, while the full anniversary program will be moved to 2023 so that Gothenburgers and visitors from all over the world can celebrate together.
For many years, Gothenburg has used the 400th anniversary in its work toward the development of the city. Our collaboration with business, academia, public activities, organizations and associations will now continue and contribute to make our city even better.
The transformation of Gothenburg’s 400th anniversary 2021-2023 begins now. During the fall of 2020, the anniversary team at Göteborg & Co will start over according to the new assignment from the City Council:
- 2021 will be a formal, historic celebration of the official birthday on the 4th of June and we will make possible for all the anniversary partners to gather and highlight their initiatives and activities on an official anniversary calendar throughout the year.
- We will continue to focus on important issues in the city and region all the way to 2023
- In 2023, a new anniversary program will be arranged with full force as everyone is invited to celebrate together
We want to encourage everyone who is involved in the 400th anniversary of Gothenburg to continue with their initiatives and plans. Many pieces of the puzzle need to fall into place.
