Hem / Summer workers give 4000 electrical cabinets a face lift with illustrations of Gothenburg
7 July 2020

The project is a collaboration between Göteborg & Co, Göteborg Energi Nät AB, that owns the cabinets and several other actors in Göteborgs Stad.

– The pandemic threatened to make a large part of the city’s summer-working youth unemployed this summer. That is why we rolled up our sleeves to find new opportunities. Many electrical cabinets need a retouch and it feels extra fun that we now can make them beautiful with illustrations created for the anniversary in 2021, says Anette Myrheim, communications director at Göteborg Energi.

The project means that Göteborg Energi doubles the number of summer jobs. In July and August, 50 young people and seven tutors will be working on electrical cabinets. Depending on the weather, up to 4000 cabinets can be done.

– The ten different illustrations are taken from a material consisting of the citizens of Gothenburg’s favorite places for the 400th anniversary, says Therese Brusberg, director of Gothenburg’s 400th anniversary 2021, at Göteborg & Co. And it is extra fun that it helps create summer jobs for young people in the city.

The association Göthenburgo has gathered suggestions on places and buildings from citizens in Gothenburg’s districts. These have later been illustrated by ten different illustrators, one from each district. A total of 100 illustrations will be shown in the exhibition “100 Places, 10 Illustrators – One City” at The Urban Gallery of Gothenburg on Milleniumplatsen outside Stora Teatern from mid-august 2020. For the anniversary in 2021, the 100 illustrations will be put together into an entire map of Gothenburg.
