Artscape was a street art festival that took place all over Gothenburg 25 July – 21 August 2016, as part of the initiative during the focus year 2016 – more culture for more people. During the festival, well-known international and local artists created large-scale works of art on selected walls in all parts of Gothenburg. Most of the works of art now have a permanent building permit, and remain to be visited until Gothenburg’s 400th anniversary.
A total of 22 works of art by 19 different artists were built in all ten districts of the city. Among other things, Sweden’s tallest murals were erected in Frölunda (40 meters high), British Cityzenkane erected wall-mounted 3D sculptures on Andra långgatan in Linnéstaden and Argentine AnimalitoLand painted fairy tales on a facade in Hammarkullen. During the festival, three workshops were also arranged, where everyone who was interested could try painting with spray paint.
