Side by Side by El Sistema
In 2023, the international music camp Side by Side by El Sistema celebrates its 10th anniversary. Side by Side is a yearly event where children and young people can discover the joy and beauty of music, be inspired by each other and find their driving force towards their own dreams and goals.
During a few intense summer days, children and young people gather from all around the world in Gothenburg to play in orchestras or sing in choirs. Exciting conductors, musicians and teachers lead workshops and rehearsals during Side by Side and the camp ends with several magnificent concerts together with musicians from the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and Gothenburg Symphony Vocal Ensemble.
Side by Side aims to give children and young people opportunities to thrive and grow by playing music and singing together. The camp is a meeting place where young people can discover the joy and beauty of music, inspire each other and find their path towards their dreams and goals. By using the power of music we will counter segregation and build bridges between people, cultures and continents.

Side by Side by El Sistema plays an important part in Gothenburg´s 400-year jubilee. Together with children and young people from around the world, we have celebrated with an abundance of joy and creativity for 10 years! Our goal was that when Gothenburg turned 400, Side by Side by El Sistema would be a world leading music camp for children from all over the world. And now, we are.
The initiative puts Gothenburg on the world map as a place where children and young people can meet through music and build solidarity and confidence for the future. With music as our force, we counteract segregation and build bridges between people, cultures and continents.
